James? by GalacticDustBunnies James? by GalacticDustBunnies
I wanted to do the daker side of the Harry Potter books. A lot of people draw young Sirius, Remus, and James all happy and such.

So, I drew Sirius coming across James's dead body . . .

Ink and Photoshop 6.0
The photoshop style is different. I'm not normally so loose, but I liked the effect with this piece.

ALL THE FEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS. *cries*

I'm actually quite fond of it when people draw these-- it makes Lily and James more... I don't know how to describe it, but it really makes you feel the sacrifice, and the loss of them. Great drawing, love the style =)

I completely loathe James Potter, but this is so sad.
He may have been a dick as a teen, but he never even had the chance to grow up.

So sad....the expression on Sirius' face is amazing, he looks completely destroyed. I love the emotion you put into this picture, with the detailed like the glasses and such. Is this supposed to be Godric's Hollow though? Because they look really young for that. If it isn't, and is just a 'what if?' or a boggart or something, then it's perfect though.

Well, James looks a *lot* younger than 21. However, the rest of the picture is so great that it really doesn't detract from the quality of the piece at all :)

omg! really sad and awesome at the same time.

and just so this is clarified, is james wearing a bath robe, or something?

James is wearing a robe robe. I tend to draw Wizards in less muggle clothing... because I can. I love HP for the non-normal world aesthetic so I abuse the chance I'm given to draw robes. :)

and thank you so much for the comment! I'm so glad to know it works well on an emotional level

The only thing that bothers me is James and Sirius both look a little too young. But other then that you pulled the emotion of the scene off great!

Oh I ttoally agree. This is a very old work of mine and while my characters can still sometime slook too young, 5 or 6 years ago (whenever I initally did this, it was apre-DA account piece IIRC) it was a huge problem.

I'm actually toing with the idea of re-doing this one.

I think it would be a good idea to redo this one, not because it is bad but you could compare yourself to what your art look like and what it looks like now! But other then the age issue, this pic is great!

I was WONDERING if anybody would ever draw this!
Because people tend to draw the happier times, so we'll all feel a bit better.

Thanks for posting this.
It looks good. But a bit scratchy in some areas.
Try cleaning it up a bit. ;)

Overall, VERY nice. I approve.

Oh my. This is beautiful.

Heart-crushingly sad though. I've often wondered what this scene would've looked like and I think the way you've portrayed it fits the mood perfectly.

The sketchiness is gorgeous.

Ultimately I think it's the glasses, lying broken beside his body that really do it for me. There's something very sad about lost glasses, and I think this proves it.

The glassy expression on James' face in contrast to the twist of anguish on Sirius'... wow.

Really excellent. I envy you, I really do.

I'm so glad the atmosphere comes off here. You know the glasses thing, for me, is almost a kind of symbol for vulnerability. Of course that's me. I'm literally can't make people out more than 4 feet from me with my glasses off so I feel exceedingly helpless if they're knocked off. So that's kinda where that come from (besides the physics of falling over dead and all that)
